Brow Lift Surgery in Sugar Land – Houston Texas
A brow lift is a surgical procedure that raises the position of a drooping brow. As a person ages, the brow develops laxity and wrinkles. The wrinkles which run across the forehead become more prominent with time. More problematic is that the brow drops below its youthful and attractive position, creating a tired and aged appearance.
Noninvasive treatments like Botox do improve forehead wrinkling and may slightly raise the brow position. The ideal patient for non-surgical Botox therapy is one where brow laxity is mild. In patients with moderate to severe brow ptosis or sag, Botox therapy is ineffective at raising the brow to a youthful and attractive position. Furthermore, any improvement is temporary and will require repeat treatment every three to four months. The best result in these patients is achieved with a brow lift or forehead lift.
The Brow Lift Procedure
Brow lift surgery may be performed using different techniques. An endoscopic approach may be used where several small incisions are made behind the hairline and the brow is lifted to a more youthful position with the use of an endoscope. An open approach may also be utilized where the brow is lifted with direct elevation and excision of excess skin through an incision carefully placed at or behind the hairline.
Several different factors help determine which approach is best for you. The position of your hairline, where the brow is sagging, and how much excess skin and laxity is present, all contribute to the decision making process. Dr. Nguyen will decide which technique will provide you with the best results during your consultation. Temporal Brow lift surgery typically takes about one to two hours and will be performed under general anesthesia.
Reasons for Considering a Brow Lift:
- Tired and aged appearance of the forehead despite being well rested
- Drooping and sagging eyebrows which now sit significantly lower than in younger years
- Prominent and deep wrinkles across forehead, which create an older and weathered look
Recovery following a Forehead Lift
Immediately after surgery, the forehead will be fitted with bandages in order to decrease the recovery time and to reduce swelling. Dr. Nguyen will remove this dressing and check your progress a few days after surgery. Just like with other facial surgeries, it is important to plan for a light week after your procedure. Keeping your head elevated after surgery will help minimize post-operative swelling. Sutures placed at the time of surgery are usually absorbable, however any permanent sutures used are usually removed about a week after surgery.
